OREANDA-NEWS. The President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers will be in Dalian, China, from September 10-12 to take part in the annual World Economic Forum that is informally known as “the summer Davos.”

This year, more than 1,000 delegates will talk about how the global economic decline has affected the economies, businesses and social safety nets of different countries. They will also discuss lessons that have been learned, the importance of sustainable entrepreneurship, and the emergence of various new global risks.

On the first day of the forum, on September 10, President Zatlers will take part in a panel discussion, “Europe’s Economic Outlook: Global Challenges, European Solutions.” The focus will be on ways in which European leaders are seeking to overcome the economic decline, given the different challenges that are faced by countries in Western and Eastern Europe. The next day, the President will participate in another panel discussion, “Preventing the Next Great Backlash.” He and other delegates will discuss the ways in which the dramatic economic crisis has affected social security systems and health care during the period when the whole world is undergoing economic healing.

During the forum, President Zatlers is expected to meet with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, as well as to grant interviews to several international media outlets.

The President was invited to attend the forum in China from the chairman of the event, Professor Klaus Schwab, in April of this year. In January, he took part in the winter session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
