OREANDA-NEWS. September 08, 2009. In January-August, 2009, Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP OJSC) handled 4.005 million tonnes of cargo (-5%, year-on-year), the company’s press center reports. According to VMTP Director General Vyacheslav Pertsev, general gap as compared with the results of the previous year fell from 500,000 tonnes to 200,000 tonnes.

The stevedore’s press center says the VMTP most pessimistic annual plan was fulfilled in January-August 09. In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo amounted to 2.797 million tonnes; import 610,000 tonnes; coastal trade cargo – 598,216 tonnes.

Vyacheslav Pertsev says the plan for cargo handling in 2009 takes into consideration the global crises, escalation of duties for second-hand import automobiles, limits on declaration of export scrap metal. Throughput of 4 million tonnes was specified by the company as the most pessimistic result. In the first quarter of the current year, the company’s specialists succeeded in replacement of "lost" or partially decreased cargo flows with new ones. Taking into consideration the situation in the market of APR countries, special attention was paid to Russian iron and steel plants and the sector of raw materials.

According to Vyacheslav Pertsev, VMTP cargo handling started growing dynamically from the second quarter of the year owing to export metal and oil coke. Currently export exceeds the results of the same period in the previous year by 650,000 tonnes. If this dynamics is retained we can expect 6 million tonnes of by the end of the year, he said. It would exceed the result of 2008 which totaled 5.9 million tonnes.
