OJSC NWT Provides New Opportunities for School Teachers
OREANDA-NEWS. September 1, 2009. Lenexpo hall hosted an annual meeting of the City Teachers’ Council – ‘Our New School’ National Educational Initiative. The event was attended by Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko, Presidential Plenipotentiary to the Northwest Federal District Ilya Klebanov, Speaker of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly Vadim Tyulpanov, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg Alla Manilova and others.
During the mass scale event attended by over 2,500 St. Petersburg’s school executives, teachers and educationalists, North-West Telecom granted the right to receive a personal computer and use the Avangard service for the whole of academic year to 15 best city teachers widely applying information technologies for teaching purposes.
The teachers who received North-West Telecom certificates from the hands of Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko became the first participants of the “PC for Teacher” Programme. The Programme being implemented by NWT jointly with Intel Corporation and MSI computer company and with the support of the Education Committee of the Government of St. Petersburg was kicked off in June 2009 (see the press release dated 25.06.09).
Under the Programme, every school teacher in the Northern Capital may, upon getting connected to the Avangard service, buy an advanced PC at a very good price to be paid with interest-free instalments over six or twelve months. The Programme participants will also be entitled to limitless use of Internet via Avangard until the end of 2009 upon signing a contract. All that a teacher has to do is to qualify for the programme is to obtain a participant’s certificate at his or her place of work (at school) and then submit it when signing an Avangard service contract at any Customer Service Centre of the St. Petersburg Branch of OJSC North-West Telecom.On the meeting day of the City Teachers’ Council a trade exhibition was held in Lenexpo’s Hall No.8 withthe participation of over 20 companies that presented school goods and equipment, books, textbooks, computers and many other items essential for both teachers and students.
OJSC North-West Telecom was also among the exhibitors offering a contract for wideband access to the Internet under the Avangard brand that could be signed by the event participants and guests on the spot with an option to buy a PC as part of the “Avangard + PC” programme, with the payment to be made with interest-free instalments over six or twelve months.
