Kazakhstan Refuses to Import Azerbaijani Vegetables over High Prices
OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2009. While the Azerbaijan states on willingness to increase the volumes of export of vegetables, one of potential importers refuses from their import.
Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov reports that Kazakhstan is not ready to buy the Azerbaijani vegetables at present prices.
"We are shocked over prices for vegetables in Azerbaijan. These prices do not withstand any competition. We are not prepared for buying vegetables at present prices, because in Aktau, where the Kazakhstan vegetable terminal functions, the prices are much lower,” ambassador said.
At that, as Azerbaijani minister of agriculture Ismat Abbasov stated that the country is ready to increase export of vegetables. In a prospect, it was intended to export vegetables through the Kazakhstan vegetable terminal.
According to minister, the terminal created in Kazakhstan can receive products from Azerbaijan in future, but on the basis of agreements with the native companies. In accordance with his estimation, Azerbaijan has large potential for export of vegetables to Kazakhstan.
