OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2009. During a meeting in Quito on Aug 19 2009 representatives of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Ecuador have signed a memorandum of mutual understanding in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The parties have agreed to develop cooperation in the following fields: engineering, construction and operation of commercial and research nuclear reactors; prospecting and development of uranium deposits; provision of nuclear fuel cycle services; nuclear and radiological safety; production and use of radio-isotopes in the industry, medicine and agriculture.

Rosatom will also help Ecuador to improve its regulatory basis in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and to train specialists in the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear power engineering.

The parties will set up working groups for drafting specific projects.
