OREANDA-NEWS. August 21, 2009. According to the National Bank NBM currency reserves amounted to US  1210.4 million. In July, 2009 as compared with the previous month, NBM currency reserves fell by US 27.47 million or 2, 3%, and since the beginning of the year (as of late July), decreased by US 489.81 million, or 29.3%.

This was due to the reduction in the mandatory reserves in foreign currency, repayment of the external debt of Moldova, including to IMF, as well as other external payments, reduction in the currency exchange rates vs. dollar.

As it was reported before, in 2008 currency reserves of Moldova have increased by US 338.72 million (25.4%) - up to US 1672.41 million. IMF predicts that in 2009 Moldova’s currency reserves will reduce by almost US400 million (23.7%) and as of late 2009 they will make US 1280 million and US 1293 million as of late 2010.
