SOCAR Launches Research to Build Sport Complex in Largest Lake
OREANDA-NEWS. August 21, 2009. A modern sporting complex is planned to be built in the largest lake of Absheron peninsula.
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) reports that by order of Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev the SOCAR Geology and Topography Administration has launched research the soil on the shores of Beyuk Shor lake. On 50 hectares of area 28 exploratory wells were drilled with depth from 10 meters to get soil samples and also 15 wells were drilled to place stationary laboratory.
"In the case of positive conclusions of geologists and topographers, a large sports complex, meeting world standards will be built on the shore of Beyuk-Shor,” it was informed.
The lake was used to produce salt over a long period, then sewerage runoffs of Baku city started flowing in it. Over some period a natural “institution for mud cures” was established on the shores of the lake.
