Ingosstrakh Paid over USD 930ths for Repairs of Engine of Vessel
OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 August 2009 was announced, that Ingosstrakh paid insurance compensation to the amount of USD 930 404 for the damage to the main engine of the Atlantic Leader vessel.
On March 24, 2008, during maneuvering in the port of Shikhu (People’s Republic of China), on the vessel carrying the load of limestone a crack was detected in the cylinder block #5 of the main engine. According to the opinion of the surveyor, who was nominated by Ingosstrakh IJSC to investigate the circumstances of the accident, the accident was caused by excessively high temperature in the conditions of the engine undercooling, when the vessel was attempting to float off the shoal in December 2007. Further on, the water went through the crack to the exhaust collector, and the chemical reaction gave rise to sulphuric acid that continued the intensive destruction of the cylinder block.
After the temporary repairs, the Atlantic Leader went to the port of Hualien (Taiwan) for final unloading, and then arrived to the ship maintenance depot in Tsink Huandao (People’s Republic of China) to repair the main engine. Ingosstrakh paid the insurance compensation for the accident in full in August 2009.
