Capacity of Tourist Accommodation Decreased in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. August 18, 2009. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the capacity of the collective tourist accommodation structures in January-June 2009 made 1606.4 patient-days, decreasing by 5.9% over the same period of 2008.
In the first half of 2009, the number of tourist arrivals to the hotels and motels totaled 45.5 thousand, decreasing by 16.9% as compared to the first half of the last year. 3.9 thousand tourists stayed in the agro-tourist pensions (-25.8%), 5,9 thousand (-42.7%) in the hostels, 13,7 thousand persons (-17.8%) in the recreational structures, 20.6 thousand (-22.6%) in the children’s camps, 6,9 thousand (-46.7%) in the tourist villas and other structures.
The number of the foreign tourists in the collective accommodation structures in the reporting period amounted to 28.4 thousand, decreasing by 18.7% as compared to the first half of 2008. The greatest share in the total number of foreigners arrived from Romania (13.2%), Ukraine (12,2%), Russia (11%), United States (6.8%), Italia (6.7%), Turkey (5.6%), Germany (4.9%) , Sweden (3.5%), France (3.3%), Great Britain and Ireland (3.3%), Bulgaria (2.7%) and Poland (2.4%).
In January-June 2009, 549.4 thousand nights spent were registered or 22.4% less than in the corresponding period of the last year. Index of the existing capacity of the collective accommodation structures made up 34.2%, falling by 7.3% as compared with January-June 2008.
