PM Tymoshenko Informs on Program on Invigoration of Commercial Banks
OREANDA-NEWS. On August 17, 2009 The Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko declared about successful implementation by the Government of the Program on invigoration of banks, in particular Rodovid Bank, Ukrgazbank and Bank Kyiv. She announced during a briefing.
Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that after capitalization Ukrgazbank and Rodovid Bank had resumed normal operation: payment system of banks completely restored while the citizens were able to hold any operations with their own money. At this, the Premier drew attention to the fact that 22% of Rodovid Bank’s depositors don’t take away but redeposit their money.
Yulia Tymoshenko informed that his week she would address the NBU leadership with a proposition to cancel moratorium on returning of deposits to the depositors of Bank Kyiv.
The Prime Minister also added to ensure more operative work the National Bank should hold all technical procedures in a quicker and more dynamic way: “if chiefs from the Government had been put in these banks, for instance, in Bank Kyiv, we would have managed to ensure invigoration of this bank sooner”.
Yulia Tymoshenko imparted after appointment by the Government of a new leader of Bank Kyiv law enforcement officers detained persons who were removing papers and destroying accounting documents, they found weapon also. Proceedings have been initiated in this case already.
“Involvement of the Government into the three banks opens huge layers of abuses taking place in the banking system and having led to destabilization in the activity of certain banks… The Government will meddle into their activity with an aim to establish order in these banks, if they have failed to do that without the Government’s assistance,” Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized.
