OREANDA-NEWS. On August 12, 2009 The Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko declared soon Ukraine will have its own communication satellite that is planned to launch by September of 2011. She informed at the beginning of the session of the Government.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, the Gov’t in synergy with the National Space Agency, team of specialists of Pivdenne Design Bureau, Pivdenmash enterprise, Hartron, Arsenal and also an expert agency of Canada have elaborated a program of production and launch of its own communication satellite. “It will be the first Ukrainian national satellite,” the Premier emphasized. The Head of Government views as unaffordable a situation when Ukraine launches satellites for half of the world, it builds such satellites for the rest, “but to be connected to the communication system we use other’s satellites paying huge money for that, the money that could be left for the country’s needs”.

“Within nearest time we will commence activities which will give us chance to launch the Ukrainian communication satellite on September 1 of 2011,” the Prime Minister promised.
