OREANDA-NEWS. On August 10, 2009 The authorities of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS) and the State Committee for Science and Technology (SCST) have been differentiated and redistributed.

The President of Belarus signed Decree No. 9 “On introducing amendments and addenda to Decree No. 7 of 5 March 2002 of the President of the Republic of Belarus” on 4 August, the presidential press service told.

The Belarusian National Academy of Sciences has been made in charge of research organisation and coordination (except for scientific and technical programmes) as well as the organisation of the state scientific expertise.

The Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences has been vested with the functions of the ministerial council for coordination of the fundamental and applied research.

The state innovation policy including monitoring of the global production tendencies and making motivated recommendations for the development of the innovation infrastructure and setting up high-technology manufactures will be the major function of the State Committee for Science and Technology.

The State Committee for Science and Technology will also check the implementation of the sci-tech programmes and the use of research achievements in the production.

Decree No. 9 takes effect from the date of its official publication.
