OREANDA-NEWS. On August 04, 2009 JSC FGC UES has completed the first stage of 2009 purpose-oriented program aimed to replacement and salvage of the equipment containing trichlorodiphenyl. This program is implemented within JSC FGC UES environmental policy for 2007-2009. In total, 18.2 thous. jars of shunt capacitors with gross weight of 652 tons have been salvaged. Salvage cost has comprised 39.4 mln rubles, reported the press-centre of FGC UES.

In the last century trichlorodiphenyl had a wide use as dielectric liquid in power transformers and capacitors owing to its exceptional thermal and physical and dielectric characteristics, fire-retarding quality and explosion safety. In this regard trichlorodiphenyl is the virulent poison and is included in the first class of hazard.

The program of JSC FGC UES environmental policy implementation provides replacement and salvage of the equipment containing trichlorodiphenyl. Such equipment is subject to mandatory replacement during reconstruction and technical re-equipment at facilities of the Unified National Electric Grid. The specialized entity that has been chosen following tender procedure and which has a license for hazardous waste management, necessary experience and equipment for trichlorodiphenyl utilization, is engaged in salvage of the dismantled equipment.

At this stage a quarter of the equipment containing trichlorodiphenyl is dismantled and salvaged. The Company continues salvage of the equipment containing trichlorodiphenyl as it is being released from the production process.
