OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2009. Minister of Energy of Russia Sergey Shmatko and his Turkish counterpart Taner Yildiz will meet in Ankara to discuss cooperation prospects. The meeting will be part of the working visit of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to Turkey. The key topic of the negotiations will be the tender for the right to build a nuclear power plant in the south of Turkey (Mersin), reported the press-centre of Minatom.

A consortium of Russian Atomstroyexport, Inter RAO UES and Turkish Park Teknik has offered to build four reactors with a total capacity of 4GW by 2012. However, the Ministry of Energy of Turkey says that the cost of the electricity to be produced by the future plant should be three times lower than the one mentioned in the offer.

Shmatko and Yildiz will also discuss the prospects of South Stream and Nabucco, projects Turkey has invited Russia to take part in.
