OREANDA-NEWS. On August 03, 2009 A delegation of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) led by Siddharth Chatterjee, Director of the Europe and Middle East Regional Office arrived on a working visit in Ashgabat, reported the Official website turkmenistan.gov.tm.

During the familiarization visit the guests were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The sides exchanged views on the opportunities of mutual advantageous and long-term cooperation in the key fields of mutual fields.

During the fruitful talks at the national ministries and departments including the Ministry of Construction and the State Committee for Sports and Tourism the sides discussed the prospects for further collaboration based on the existing potential and priorities of Turkmenistan’s national development. In particular, the opportunities of collaboration with the UN Office that oversaw activities in more than 50 project countries across the world in the ongoing projects in Turkmenistan were considered. As an independent, self-financing organization the UNOPS stood ready to consider Turkmenistan’s proposals and provide assistance in procurement of necessary material and equipment, construction of different facilities including clinics, roads, schools, etc.

During these days the UNOPS delegation will hold the talks the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and others.

Established as part of the United Nations Development Programme in 1974 UNOPS is an independent, self-financing, organization that has the not-for-profit status that means that the UNOPS services conform to the highest standards of transparency, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
