Azerbaijan Fails to Meet WTO Membership Conditions in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2009. The 7th session of the workgroup on Azerbaijan’s acceptance in the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held in Geneva on 24 July.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan informs that following the meeting it was decided that until 14 September 2009 the group’s members will present questions for trade regime offered by Azerbaijan.
The 8th session of the group can take place in late 2009 or in the first quarter of 2010.
At the 7th session a range of countries (Egypt on behalf of African Group, Turkey, Paraguay on behalf of countries not having access to open sea, China, Brazil, Pakistan and Jordan) backed fully Azerbaijan’s proposals.
The US, European Commission, Canada, Australia and South Korea are ready to give support in case of full observation of the WTO principles.
Azerbaijan has been negotiating about its WTO full membership since 1997 and planned to finish them until the end of 2009.
