Delegation of COSCO Visited Klaipeda Port
OREANDA-NEWS. July 24, 2009. A delegation of representatives of Chinese company COSCO (China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company) visited Klaipeda port. The objective of the visit – development of relations between Lithuania and China and discussion on potential methods of cargo transportation from China to Lithuania, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda port.
Director General Eugenijus Gentvilas and Marketing Director Arturas Drungilas met the guests at the Seaport Authority (J. Janonio str. 24) and introduced them to Klaipeda Port activities, economic indicators of the port performance, presented the ongoing projects of the port development, potential and capacities of the port, also discussed the performance, specifics and logistic issues of the cargo handling companies operating in the port.
During the visit, members of the delegation met with to the presidents of associations operating in the port (Lithuanian stevedoring companies, Lithuanian ship brokers and agents), the heads of the companies “Lithuanian Railways” PLC, “Arijus“ Ltd., “Klaipeda Container Terminal” Ltd., stevedoring company “Klaipedos Smelte“, and discussed economic situation, potential capacities of the port, intermodal transport and railway, as well as cargo categories and quantities.
After the meeting at the Seaport Authority, the members of the delegation visited Klaipeda Free Economic Zone (Pramones str. 8), where presentation of the zone performance and its potential for development of industrial-logistic activities was made to the quests.
Later, the members of the delegation were taken on an excursion around the port waters by ship.
