OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2009. Since the last Sorainen Legal Update in March, the economical and legal environment in the Baltic States and Belarus has changed significantly. Sorainen has experienced changes as well. With this Legal Update, Sorainen introduces the newly formed Restructuring & Insolvency team and its team leader, Sorainen Latvia office partner Girts Ruda, reported the press-centre of Sorainen.

The Legal Update informs of the most important changes in laws and regulations in the Baltic States and Belarus. The Estonia office introduces readers to significant changes in the Estonian Building Act and the possibility for shareholders to vote electronically in the near future. The present banking and economic crisis in Latvia has urged the Parliament to adopt laws to ensure the stability of the Latvian financial sector, as well as to make serious amendments to tax laws, particulary described in the latest Latvian Tax Newsflash. The Lithuania office introduces the 14th ministry established in Lithuania – the Ministry of Energy. Belarus is continuing to liberalise its economy with a plan that consists of 52 priority measures.

In this Legal Update, Sorainen also informs of the latest transactions. The most significant ones include representation of the interests of the Republic of Latvia in drafting agreements with EBRD and Risto Agur, Sorainen Estonia office senior associate, acting as court-appointed reorganisation advisor for MKV.
