OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2009. Latvia’s President Valdis Zatlers officially visited Tajikistan. A delegation of twenty five businessmen travelled together with the President’s team members to meet with Tajik entrepreneurs and negotiate the cooperation opportunities. Our Board member Dinars Kolpakovs and a representative of Private banking department Nikolai Kuzmin were among the delegation, reported the press-centre of BIB.

The development of economic ties was the main focus of the visit. After the talks, President Zatlers emphasised the need to utilise a great potential for supplying pharmaceuticals and food products from Latvia and promote cooperation in areas such as hydro energy services, transit services and tourism. He also underscored that the intergovernmental agreements signed in February in Riga, the agreement on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation signed between the two countries today in Dushanbe, and the agreement on international road traffic establish prerequisites for building up business contacts proactively. The recently opened direct air route between Riga and Dushanbe also is very conducive to conducting business.

„As a  representative of the bank, I was very pleased to hear Tajikistan’s President Emomalii Rahmon saying during the press conference that Latvia had accumulated a vast experience in developing the domestic banking sector and calling upon the Latvian bankers to share their experience and expertise with their Tajik peers,” Dinars Kolpakovs said after returning home. „For me, the visit provided an excellent opportunity to have a closer look at that interesting region, its culture, business and traditions. There is plenty of potential for mutually beneficial business, both now and in the future, as long as we stay focused on representing and promoting business interests of our existing clients,” he added.
