OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2009. The ceremony of signing the Agreement on Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the India-CIS Chamber of Commerce and Industry that unites over 12,000 corporations, producers, small and medium business of the friendly country was held in the Turkmen capital. A delegation led by Director General of the India-CIS Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anil Mathur had arrived in Ashgabat for this propose.

The starting point for signing this agreement was the first meeting of the Turkmen-Indian intergovernmental commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation which was held in the capital of India – New Delhi last January. The talks focused on the prospects for and the priority directions of bilateral cooperation at a current stage. Based on the age-old traditions of friendship between the two fraternal peoples and historical and cultural affinities this collaboration acquired a new quality and content today. This is evidenced by mutually adventurous business and humanitarian cooperation that is actively intensified during the past two years. As is known, the decision to open the new speciality – the Hindi language at the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Literature of the D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages was taken to comply with the dynamics of the Turkmen-Indian relations.

The parties to the Agreement agreed to promote establishment and development of trade and economic contacts between the Turkmen and Indian enterprises, institutions and organisations of all forms of ownership with focus on cooperation between small and medium-size enterprises. The important aspects of business partnership included the forums – seminars, symposia, conferences, exhibitions, fairs, etc., as well as regular consultations aimed at intensifying economic contacts and tackling current issues. In the framework of the national legislation the partners will exchange information on economics and foreign trade. The parties also intend to promote development of mutually advantageous cooperation through attracting of a wide range of partners at the national and regional levels as well.

In the interview Anil Mathur said that the key factors of fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and India included the profound economic potential of two countries. The guest noted that there were the vast opportunities to cooperate in a wide spectrum of industries, particularly in the energy sector, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, construction, education and tourism, as well as in high technology, where India had made significant progress.

The Indian partners invited Turkmen producers to take part in the exhibition, which would be held in New Delhi this November. The partners were planning that Ashgabat would host National Exhibition of India in Turkmenistan in the first half of 2010.
