SC Olimpstroy Meets Representatives of Ecological Organizations
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2009. The Russian office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Greenpeace Russia have voiced interest in forming a system for ecological control and holding engineering and ecological surveys as part of the implementation of the Program on the Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi As Mountain Climatic Resort.
“SC Olimpstroy will continue working in close cooperation with national and international environmental organizations,” Taymuraz Bolloev stated. “We are also interested in the international experience in the sphere of implementing the so-called “green standards.”
The meeting’s agenda included discussions on the recently approved General Development Plan for the city of Sochi until 2032, as well as the construction of the combined motorway and railway Adler — Krasnaya Polyana.
Participants of the meeting reached the understanding that before the plan for the road construction was approved, a detailed analysis of its route must be conducted for the purpose of determining the habitat of rare animals and other significant nature sites. These zones will then be excluded from the projected road route.
“SC Olimpstroy must not only ensure the timely launch of facilities, but also minimize the harmful effect of the construction on the environment. We have been vested with a great responsibility, and we are acutely aware of this,” observed Stanislav Ananyev.
During the meeting, representatives of public organizations discussed in great detail various aspects of the introduction of new requirements that were developed specifically to boost environmental safety throughout the design and construction of Olympic venues.
Implementing the “Green Standards System,” determining requirements for the quality of work with the use of innovative technologies, improving the system for obtaining approvals and certificates — all of these things will become an integral part of the complex project on the system of ecological support for the Olympic project.
“We have analyzed the results of collaborative work, set out the goals for the future and discussed the primary measures that must be taken to ensure environmental protection. It is very important for the state corporation that such meetings become regular,” SC Olimpstroy President Taymuraz Bolloev stated.
