OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2009. United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has been the first among Russia's pipe companies to register with Shell, as a manufacturer and supplier of large-diameter pipes designed for transporting acidic materials, and obtain the relevant certificates, reported the press-centre of OMK.

OMK's application for certification was submitted to Shell last year. A trial batch of LDP with the relevant characteristics was produced last fall. During November-December, Shell specialists assessed the production process at Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), for compliance with the Shell requirements.

Based on the results of pipe tests and an audit of the production process, it was decided to certify OMK as Shell's supplier of LDP designed for transporting sulfurous gas and sulfur-bearing oils.

"The certification by Shell of OMK as a supplier of LDP for sulfur-bearing materials is a very important event and an obvious competitive advantage," said OMK President Vladimir Markin. "The new certificate extends our prospects for cooperation with Shell and other foreign oil and gas companies and proves the compliance of our products with the world standards again."
