OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2009. Launch of the new works will allow 27 times reduce concentration of suspended substance discharged in the sewer of Berezniki and the Kama river. Treatment capacity is 500 m3/hour, reported the press-centre of VSMPO-AVISMA.

Representatives of Natural Resources Ministry of Perm region, local and regional environmental and surveillance agencies, Berezniki Mayor administration, representatives of industrial companies invited to the opening event have appreciated technical capabilities and performances of the new environmental object.

Honorary right to open the works was given to Ludmila Harun - Head of Environmental Board, Viktor Ageev - Berezniki Deputy Mayor, Igor Sizikov – Avisma Managing director, and Alexander Baranov – Director, LLC “Promcanal”.

The new treatment works, designed under the project of GNC NII Vodgeo, occupies a floor space of 1.5 ha; treatment processes (neutralization and clearing of waste water) performed in the new works take four and a half hours only. As a result of this, sewage treated from heavy metals and suspended matters can be discharged directly to the river, and dry sludge of suspended matters will be supplied for storage in the ground.

Igor SIZIKOV, AVISMA’s Managing Director:
- Completion and launching of the fourth stage treatment works is another significant AVISMA’s contribution in improvement of Perm region environment. This works is a state-of-the-art environmental object with advanced equipment and process enhancement at all treatment stages. This object has been constructed without stoppage of the current works. The project is unique for Perm region. A lot was accomplished for the first time. And this is the first investment object implemented by AVISMA under crisis conditions.

Upgrading of the treatment works allowed to avoid environment damage of 85 mln. rubles a year which seemed inevitable without treatment. For five years of construction and equipment procurements, VSMPO-AVISMA has invested 149 mln. rubles. As a result, treatment works for AVISMA’s sewage is one of the advanced in Russia.

- This is a historical event not only for AVISMA and Berezniki but for Perm region, and maybe entire Russia, as well. In such a difficult situation, many companies refuse from construction of even most significant objects. And environmental issues concern them even less. Opening of the treatment works proves that AVISMA is a socially responsible company seriously considering environmental issues.

Alexander Baranov, Director, LLC “Promcanal”:
- Our company accepts AVISMA’s sewage and transports it further. We are, undoubtedly, glad that AVISMA, in such a difficult time, has faced the matter out and constructed this perfect works! This will, of course, relieve the Kama river from negative affect. We are all residents of this region, fishermen and hunters, and realize that the cleaner is our water the more we will leave for next generations.

Water pollution prevention is a most significant aspect of the company’s environmental policy. Realization of the treatment project proves that handling environmental problems and achievement of high efficiency of environmental activities is one of the priorities of AVISMA’s management system.
