OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2009. Public hearings on the project to return spent nuclear fuel and drafts of special ecological programs have taken place at the Information Center of Mayak Production Association in compliance with the federal law № 174-ФЗ (Nov 23 1995) “On Ecological Examination.”

The discussion was part of the program to return the spent nuclear fuel of research reactors of Russian design.

The implementation of the special ecological programs financed due to the currency earned from foreign trade operations with spent nuclear fuel will help to solve the ecological problems of contaminated territories, will allow Mayak to process the highly active waste accumulated since the 1950s-1980s, will reduce the risks of radioactive emissions and will improve the ecological and radiation safety situation in Chelyabinsk region. 

First Deputy Head of the Administration of Ozersk municipal district Vladimir Panteleev, Vice Speaker of the Council of Deputies of Ozersk municipal district, Secretary of the Political Council of Ozersk office of Russia United Valentina Sylko, representatives of the Council of Veterans of Mayak PA, representative of the organization of heads of public reception officers of the governor of Chelyabinsk region Yevgeny Ryzhkov, representatives of Women’s Association NGO took part in the public hearings. They supported all the programs.
