BIB Supports Exhibition in Riga City Exhibition Hall
OREANDA-NEWS. From 7 to 19 July Igor Barulin’s solo exhibition “Last Century” will be held in the Riga City Exhibition Hall. The exhibition is organised with the assistance of Baltic International Bank, reported the press-centre of Baltic International Bank.
Igor Barulin’s exhibition contains large format colour photos which were created in the 80’s of the last century (1981 through 1988). Traditional theme of the photos – streets and squares of the Old Town, surroundings of the Arkadijas Park, and suburb landscapes, which remind of the foretime and offer visitors to immerse in romantic mood.
The works of I.Barulin allow us to capture the magic of experimentation and impressionistic improvisation. However, the photos are not supposed to compete with painting. Rather, they tell their own story. In an unusual manner, the author uses a wide array of special techniques, such as unfocused photography (a single-lens objective) and specific settings used for developing photos, and many other techniques known only to well-seasoned photographers. The photos displayed in the exhibition were restored in Marcis Bendik’s photo studio.
Igor Barulin (born 1959) lives and works in Riga. He has been engaged in photography since he was twenty. At that point he was admitted into VEF Photo Studio, one of the most progressive studios in Riga at that time. In the 1980’s the author got carried away with advertising photography, and in the 1990’s he worked in industrial advertising. At that time the photographer created many advertising materials for Latvian and foreign enterprises. His work was highly appraised, and he was rewarded with the bronze medal for his participation in the exhibition “Advertising-90” (Moscow). The artist arranged several solo exhibitions in Moscow and London. His photo works are held in private collections in Latvia, Russia, Italy, Germany and Japan.
