Two Notices on Incidents in Klaipeda Port Were Received
OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2009. The Dispatcher office of the port received a notice that 2 persons sailing in a rubber boat asked for help at Kiaules nugara island, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
2 persons sailing in a rubber boat could not proceed further due to broken oar. Uncontrolled rubber boat was carried by wind to the coast of Kiaules nugara island. Rescue boat „Zaibas“ was immediately sent to the place of the incident and its crew successfully delivered the rubber boat ashore.
On 18 June, 2009 (Thursday) at 13.15 a notice from the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre was received that at the old ferry station in Smiltyne a small training sailing boat with 2 children onboard, who were mastering their sailing skills without a supervising person, had capsized.
The staff of the Port Master Service promptly responded to this accident: they immediately sent the rescue boat „Zaibas“. During rescue of the children the crew of the boat was also assisted by the crew of Polish yacht „Energetik“ that happened to sail nearby.
The two children who had been unsuccessfully mastering their sailing skills (were wearing life saving vests), were rescued and transferred to the medical staff of the ambulance at quay No. 27.
