International Experts Believe in Safety of Russian NPPs
OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2009. International experts say that Russian nuclear power plants are very safe, the head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) Nikolay Kutyin said after the 16th annual forum of countries operating WWER reactors, which was held in Bulgaria.
Representatives of the supervisory and regulatory bodies of Ukraine, Iran, Finland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, India, China, Bulgaria and Armenia took part in the forum.
“They discussed problems related to the safe operation, reconstruction and modernization of WWER reactors, analyzed methods of their supervision and the efficiency of cooperation among regulatory authorities,” Kutyin said.
WWER is one of the most advanced reactors in the world. WWER was designed in the Soviet times and is successfully operated in Russia and abroad. NPP-2006 project (WWER-1200) is the most advanced Russian WWER project based on the technical solutions of NPP-92 project.
NPP-92 has been recognized as complying with the EUR requirements to light water reactors of new generation.
