OREANDA-NEWS. July 2, 2009. In the first half of 2009, Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Odessa region, Ukraine) handled 8.273 million tonnes of cargo (-12.5%, year-on-year). In June the companyhandled 1.128 million tonnes of cargo.

According to the company, cargo handling fell by 28.1% in June with the 45.3-pct decrease in handing of general cargo, 16.9-pct decrease of dry bulk and 86.6-pct increase liquid bulk cargo.

In June the highest growth was demonstrated in transshipment of vegetable oil (+303.6%). In the first half of the year - transshipment of oilcakes (+153.3%), metal (+13.9%), gas (+13.3%), ore (+6.6 %), vegetable oil (+4.1%).

However, transshipment of motor equipment fell by 97.1% in June and by 82.7% in the first half of the year.

Container throughput fell by 70.4% in June and by 67.7% in the half-year period         .

Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is one of four largest ports in Ukraine. The company has facilities capable of handling over 30 million tonnes of cargoes annually and 29 modern berths with total quay line of 6,000 meters. In 2008 the port handled 18.9 million tonnes of cargo (+18%, year-on-year).
