OREANDA-NEWS. July 1, 2009. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, received a US Congress delegation led by Howard Berman, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, on June 30.

During the conversation, a thorough exchange of views took place on the state of, and prospects for Russian-American relations and on topical issues on the international agenda. Sergey Lavrov positively evaluated the outcome of the joint sitting of the international committees of the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly and the US House of Representatives held in Moscow on June 29 and the contribution of legislators to strengthening dialogue between the two countries.

The participants in the meeting stressed the need to deepen further Russian-US cooperation at all levels, including the parliamentary dimension, on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests.
