OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2009. A regional premiere of a film by a famous Uzbek film maker, national premieres of three short films by young Kyrgyz film makers, and the first showing in the country of some Tajik, Kazakh, French and German films – will take place as part of an International film festival, reported the press-centre of AUB.

The Embassies of France and Germany, with the support of the “AUB-Blagotvoritelnost” Fund, will present the third International French-German-Kyrgyz film festival, which this year will screen sixteen short and seven full-length films, shot by both young aspiring film makers and well-known film producers from Europe and Central Asia. The audiences will enjoy European and domestic films covering nearly all genres: comedy, musical, documentary, etc.

Residents and visitors to the capital will experience a truly unique project. For the first time this year the film festival will take place outdoors on a huge screen specially erected for the event. Shows start at 9pm every night.

This film festival traditionally consists of two parts: a showing of several short films submitted for entry into a film competition (9 film projects to be critically reviewed by a panel of judges) and full-length films from France, Germany and Central Asia. The best short film will win a Grand prize of one thousand euros, donated by the “AUB-Blagotvoritelnost” Fund.

“There are several reasons behind our support for the festival. Firstly, we want to help and encourage young Kyrgyz film makers, as our culture is part of the world culture. Secondly, we hope that participation of our young, undoubtedly gifted, film directors in the festival competition will give them an opportunity to take the first steps towards recognition and international acclaim”, said Ulan Sarbanov, the CEO of “AUB-Blagotvoritelnost” Fund.
