OREANDA-NEWS. On 29 June 2009 was announced, that Turkmenistan will start deliveries of fruits and vegetables to St. Petersburg. The first batch - about 6 tons of watermelons, melons, dried fruits and herbs - have already arrived in the city on the Neva by a regular flight from Ashgabat. Fruits and vegetables were sent by the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan. The products will be distributed through the partner companies of St. Petersburg.

It is expected that deliveries of fruits and vegetables will increase to 20 tons a week in the future, head of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens in St. Petersburg and North-West region of Russia Nurgeldi Seyidov said. Moreover, Turkmenistan is planning to supply carpets, textile products and other goods to the northern capital of Russia.

It should be recalled that the air service between Ashgabat and St. Petersburg was launched in March this year during the state visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Russia. Flights between Ashgabat and St. Petersburg are carried out once a week by Turkmenhovayollary airline.
