ROSNO Observes Increasing Demand for Insurance against Tick Bites
OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2009. During the two months (from mid-April to June 2009) after the launch of the sales of the VMI program "Tick Protection", the Kostroma branch of the IC ROSNO has insured 1,600 private individuals. Already 13 people turned for help to medical institutions in Kostroma, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.
The sales of the policy "Tick Protection" were launched in ROSNO’s Kostroma branch on April 15’ 2009. At present, this program covers 1,600 people (all insurants are private individuals).
The policy guarantees provision of high-quality medical aid to insurants in case of tick bites, in the necessary volume and in accordance with the insurance program. Despite its comparatively low costs (150 roubles in the Kostroma Region), the program contemplates provision of extensive range of medical services such as outpatient treatment, emergency medical aid and hospital treatment in case of tick-borne encephalitis.
"The relevance of such insurance is evident. Caution and attentiveness when being in locations posing a danger of tick bites, unfortunately, does not fully guarantee safety, the more so as many people do not immediately realize they have been bitten by a tick. Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis also offer no 100% protection against this disease. Along with encephalitis, ticks spread the Lime disease (tick-borne borreliosis). The insurance policy „Tick Protection“, while not amounting to the anti-tick repellent, yet enables provision of high-quality medical aid to the client, once this unfortunate event did happen. From year to year, there is an increasing number of the Russian regions where the ixodic tick carries tick-borne encephalitis and borreliosis. The demand for these programs is growing", notes Mr. Alexander Eremenko, head of ROSNO’s Kostroma branch.
