Volume of Transactions of Moldova’s Foreign Exchange Market Reduced
OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2009. The volume of transactions of Moldova’s foreign exchange market reduced in May 2009 by US9.94 million (2.32 per cent) against the previous month.
According to the National Bank of Moldova, the amount of transactions of Moldova’s foreign exchange market totaled US 419.49 million in May 2009 (US 428.4 million in April). The average daily volume of transactions decreased to US 20.92 million in May from US 21.42 million.
The share of operations with dollars in the total volume of the foreign exchange market’s transactions made up 64.64 per cent (US 270.9 million). The share of transactions with euros made up 30.92 per cent, with Russian rubles – 3.15 per cent, Romanian leis – 0.15 per cent, Ukrainian hrevnyas – 0.01 per cent.
In comparison with April, the share of turnover with dollars went down by 1.93 percentage points, with euros – increased by 1.36 percentage points, with Russian rubles – increased by 1 p.p. The MDL’s average exchange rate against dollar in May amounted to 11.2675 leis (in April – 11.1963 leis), against euro – 15.3252 leis (in April – 14.8393 leis), Russian ruble – 0.3595 lei (in April – 0.33.57 lei), Romanian lei – 3.6981 lei (in April – 3.5395 lei), Ukrainian hrevnya – 1.4478 lei (in April – 1.3832 lei).
