OREANDA-NEWS. On 17 June 2009 was announced, that Moscow International Airport Domodedovo had been named "Best CIS Airport" with a passenger turnover adding up to over 1mln passengers per year, according to the results of the "Airport" Professional Association contest. The annual award ceremony was held on May 26th 2009, the prize was awarded according to the results of 2008.

Only airports with the best production, infrastructure development, new passenger service implementation, luggage processing and safety and security level figures can become nominees of the award.

During the previous year Domodedovo airport serviced a record 20.4 million passengers . The airports proactive development strategy enabled it to develop its route network ,new flights on such destinations as: Chicago, Dublin, Abu-Dabi, Houston, Hamburg, Ostrava, Ivano-Frankovsk, Ioshkar-Ola. Last year such airlines as Lufthansa, American Airlines, Etihad, Aegean Airlines, Arkia, Israir, Wind Rose and Region-avia became partners of Domodedovo.

In 2008 Domodedovo proceeded with intensive reconstruction of the passenger terminal building, "Domodedovo catering services" in-flight catering facility, finished reconstruction of its Technical base. For the comfort of passengers the area of the passenger terminal was drastically increased, a SPA-salon, new shops, restaurants were opened. Increasing service quality self-registration kiosks were installed, a unique telephone directory service was implemented.

A constant development of the airport infrastructure, the implementation of new services and technologies allow to ensure a level of maximum comfort for passengers and guests of Domodedovo airport.
