OREANDA-NEWS. On 17 June 2009 was announced, that Session of the steering committee of the republic on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia was held chaired by Head of the Republic Sergey Katanandov.

On June 25 in Moscow there will gather the Russian steering committee created under the decree of the President. It is headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov, the committee comprises many high-ranking statesmen. Karelia should report on what is already done in preparation for the celebration, to make prepared and grounded suggestions to the Plan of preparatory measures.

- It is a great responsibility, - Head of the Republic has emphasized. - Matters concern serious money. Within the scope of the Plan it is supposed to involve about three billions roubles to the republic. In the present crisis conditions each copeck from the federal budget is worth its weight in gold. We shall be held accountable for it very seriously and with partiality.

Ministers of the Government of Karelia, members of the steering committee reported on the state of affairs on each object which commissioning is stipulated by the Plan, on each celebratory action. Yet the Program of preparation for the celebration for Petrozavodsk is not ready. Acting mayor of the city Anatoly Buldakov has promised to finish work on the document to the middle of June, however even at this session he could define scale of works in general. The cost of preparatory measures on the city might make 209 million roubles. Within the scope of preparation already on June 4 there will begin the long-awaited patching repair of the city streets. By the holiday the Onego lake quay will be partially repaired, facades of 25 houses will painted anew, reconstruction of stadium Yunost will be completed, other objects will be commissioned.

Addressing to the management of Petrozavodsk, Sergey Katanandov has demanded "revolution" in accomplishment and gardening of the city. As he said, at last, it is necessary to return Petrozavodsk the appearance which was so much adored by the townspeople and admired by its visitors.

Members of the steering committee discorded on annoncing Day of the Republic the day off next year. By the way, the program of events depends on the fact whether citizens of Karelia have a day off. Therefore, Head of the Republic has addressed to the public, to citizens of the republic with the request to express their opinion in this occasion and to address to the steering committee with their offers and wishes.

By the end of the session it was found out that there is no official motto of the anniversary celebration. In the republic there has been held the best emblem and motto competition. However, although the jury has chosen the emblem, there was no proper variants of the motto submitted for the competition, as none of them was succinct enough, poetical, bright and original.

Preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the republic will proceed routinely.
