Control Committee Wants Lukashenko to Consider Beer Import Monopoly
OREANDA-NEWS. On 15 June 2009 was announced, that the State Control Committee of Belarus suggests that President Alexander Lukashenko consider establishing a special importer of beer, the press service of the president reported after State Control Committee Chief Zenon Lomat presented his report to Lukashenko.
According to the committee, the move, which was initiated by Belarusian brewers, will make imports transparent.
The committee has reported instances of illegal beer imports.
Lomat believes the move will help Belarusian brewing meet production and export targets.
Last year’s beer output was at 35.4 million decaliters, short of the 50 million-deciliter target, and exports reached 800,000 decaliters, almost four times below the target.
