KPO Employee Receives Prestigious Award form UK Institute
OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2009. Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) has announced that the UK based Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Awards for Excellence 2009 recognized the outstanding achievement of KPO employee Maksat Khabiev, who completed an International Management Qualification (IMQ) Diploma in Management.
Maksat Khabiev, a KPO Occupational Health and Hygiene Section Head, completed his ILM training in Kazakhstan, but travelled to London to receive his awards on 24 April at a special event held at Wembley Stadium.
The ILM awards celebrate the achievements of practicing managers, employers, training providers and learners who have accomplished outstanding results through innovative approaches to leadership and management.
Maksat won the overall prize for his absolute commitment to professional and personal development. Judges were impressed by the speed with which he gained a detailed understanding of the mechanics of his organisation, before making changes that resulted in major improvements to risk control, planning, performance monitoring and financial management.
KPO General Director, Roger Fox said: “KPO leadership takes pride in Maksat’s achievement. At Karachaganak we are committed to fully develop the potential of our Kazakh colleagues Capacity building through sustainable development and skills transfer are central to the way we work.
“We have put in place long term development programmes and we are pushing forward with our nationalisation agenda. KPO has invested over US\\$96 million in training and development initiatives and currently, 44 per cent of managerial positions at KPO and 85 per cent of professional and supervisory positions are currently held by nationals”, added Roger Fox.
Penny de Valk, Chief Executive of ILM, said: "This week ILM published new research which found that managers must have: a strong, purposeful approach; an ability to adapt quickly and develop innovative and effective solutions to problems; and a positive outlook.
“Maksat has demonstrated how valuable investment in training can be in building these vital qualities. These skills and characteristics will help individuals and, as a consequence, their organisations, to survive the downturn and emerge stronger", added Penny de Valk.
Oksana Rastorgueva, KPO Training and Development Manager, said: “The ILM course complements the on-the-job technical training that KPO provides to its local personnel, as part of the Nationalisation Programme. I am confident that the development of management skills will increase the professional competence of the participants of the programme and, as a result, will accelerate the development of their careers within KPO”.
