OREANDA-NEWS. On 10 June 2009 was announced, that Consul General spent the first day meeting the top leadership of the Vologda Oblast Government, deputies of the Legislative Council, head of the Vologda City administration, business and community leaders. The guests to Vologda also got acquainted with the cultural heritage of the Vologda area visiting the picturesque Vologda Kremlin.

On June 9 the delegation of the Estonian Consulate General in St. Petersburg set off for Cherepovets, an industrial centre of the Vologda Oblast.

The Republic of Estonia is a trade partner of the Vologda Oblast. In 2008 the commodity turnover amounted to USD  29,76 mln. Vologda's exports are made up of mineral fertilizers, ferrous metals, chemicals, wood and wood-working articles, overland transport vehicles, furniture, textile fibre, spun cotton, toys and sports equipment. Estonia's import articles are machinery and appliances, metalware, plastic, food products, optics, production of gypsum, cement and asbestos. Severstal, Cherepovets plywood and furniture plant, Severstal-metiz, Cherepovetsky Azot, Sokol wood-processing plant, Belozersk forestry and LPK Kipelovo are leaders in export supplies to the Republic of Estonia. At present, there are no companies with Estonian capital in the region.

According to the 2002 national census of the Russian Federation there are 105 Estonians living on the territory of the Vologda Oblast. At present no agreement of cooperation exists between the Vologda region and any region of the Republic of Estonia.
