LTL 1.5 mln up Reliability of Moletai TS
OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2009. Lietuvos Energija AB has completed another investment project – a LTL 1.5M-worth investment into equipment of Moletai transformer substation (TS) has satisfied the increased capacity demand and improved the reliability of power supply. This substation supplies power to Moletai town and region. Following the positive assessment of the Commission for Technical Evaluation, the equipment of the substation were launched for a trial period, whereas today Moletai TS is recognized by the Commission as suitable for operation.
“The essential change is that the substation switchgear’s capacity transformer has been installed with the second 110 kV (kilovolt) voltage connection equipment, designated for a new capacity transformer. This increases the power supply reliability of the Moletai transformer substation and satisfies today’s power demand, - said Mr.Vidmantas Grushas, Board Member, Chief Technical Executive of Lietuvos Energija AB. According to him, from now on, in case of disconnection of one of the power lines, supplying electricity from the transformer substation, the supply would be automatically ensured by the second – backup line. The transformer substation's equipment are controlled remotely from the dispatch center of Lietuvos Energija AB.
The bulk of investment into Moletai TS was allocated to the switchgear and its relay protection, automation and control equipment. Moreover, the substation’s technological dispatch control equipment and switchgear’s infrastructure – cable channels and equipment foundation were also renovated.
After installation of the new equipment at Moletai TS, operated since 1976, the substation will require less technical maintenance and repairs in their number and scope. It is also notable, that thanks to the training courses for the local staff, their level of qualification was improved,” – said Mr. V. Grushas. At the moment Moletai TS is regularly serviced by four specially trained specialists.
The substation’s installation and tuning was performed by Hidroelektromontazhas UAB, the project was drawn by Varikonta UAB.
This year Lietuvos Energija allocated a total of LTL 120M for investment projects. The bulk part of these funds will be directed to the construction and rehab of the transmission grid, preparation of power transmission lines for strategic interconnection projects as well as modernization and development of Kaunas hydro power plant and Kruonis pumped storage plant. In 2009 Lietuvos Energija AB also completed the second stage of construction of 110/10 kV Nemunas transformer substation and is planning to start the rehabilitation of 110/35/10 kV Naujoji Akmenл and Kurshenai, 110/10 kV Ignalina, Shilkas and Savitishkis transformer substations.
