Sberbank Stake in Opel Could Be Assigned to GAZ
OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2009. Sberbank of Russia said its stake in Opel could be assigned to Oleg Deripaska’s GAZ. However, any transactions are subject to the approval of all shareholders, Hesse Prime Minister Roland Koch said. He added that the parties have yet to agree on when and how Opel manufacture could be set up in Russia.
Magna plans to invest EUR 500 mn in Opel by 2012, the minister said. Earlier Sberbank chairman German Gref said that the bank could assign its 35% stake in the German car maker to a Russian strategic investor without naming it. Sources earlier named IzhAvto, Sollers and TagAZ as the potential beneficiaries of a stake in Opel.
