OREANDA-NEWS. On 09 June 2009 was announced, that UC RUSAL’s Bogoslovsk aluminium smelter successfully completes a scheduled audit by VSMPO and Boeing.

The Bogoslovsk smelter (BAZ) has been supplying aluminium to VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation for more than 10 years. In turn, VSMPO uses the Bogoslovsk aluminium to produce spare parts for Boeing aircrafts.

Every three years Boeing and VSMPO-AVISMA audit the compliance of BAZ products with ISO 9001:2000 and corporate standards. The smelter recently completed a compliance audit of its Quality Management System.

The audit covered production processes in the casthouse, product quality control procedures, document management, and monitoring and measurement systems. In their statement, the auditors specified high performance of the Quality Management System in every production area of the smelter and noted strong involvement of personnel in the quality management process. Distinguished areas include the casthouse, the central laboratory and the quality management unit.

Yury Myakishev, acting quality director at BAZ said: ‘Recognition of BAZ as a supplier of Category A – top-quality – products is especially pleasing. It means that our products meet all international quality requirements and that the aircraft industry still has demand for it, the crisis notwithstanding’.

‘As part of our crisis response programme called the Cost Efficiency Leader we try to find unconventional production solutions. It is an increasing priority for all UC RUSAL’s plants’, said Oleg Burkatsky, managing director of the smelter. ‘We are also making sure that requirements of our customers, including our long-time and reliable partner VSMPO-AVISMA, are met 100%. In late May 2009, BAZ received a request from the Kamensk-Uralsk metallurgical works (KUMZ) to produce a pilot batch of extra low-silicon metal. KUMZ used our batch to produce high alloys which are in big demand in the market’.
