JSC TransContainer and Tatravagonka to Set up Railcar Production
OREANDA-NEWS. June 05, 2009. JSC TransContainer and Tatravagonka signed an Agreement at the international business forum Strategic Partnership 1520 in Sochi, whereby they will use the facilities of Gryazinsk Container Plant, a subsidiary of JSC TransContainer, to build freight railcars.
“We want to launch a railcar assembly line for the advanced versions of freight railcars in Russia, such as high-capacity flatcars. Yet in the pre-crisis times we felt the lack of this kind of rolling stock and we’ll still feel it for several more years. Therefore, we decided to team up with our Slovak partners and set up a railcar production at Gryazinsk Container Plant with the annual production capacity of at least two thousand cars”, said JSC TransContainer’s CEO Peter Baskakov during the signing ceremony.
To bring the project to life, the parties may start up a joint venture. “The final decision on the joint venture will be passed by the management of both the companies after a business plan is developed and the project is studied more profoundly”, stressed Peter Baskakov.
Under the current version of the project, the joint venture will not only manufacture high-capacity railcars and spare parts but also offer after-sales car maintenance and related services.
It is planned that the joint venture will be responsible for the whole manufacturing process from design work to the mass production of the rolling stock.
