OREANDA-NEWS. On 04 June 2009 Comstar – United Telesystems (JSC Comstar-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS announced that the branch of CJSC  Stream TV (making part of JSC Comstar-UTS Group of companies) in the city Severodvinsk has started provision of BBA service to individuals and entities in the town of Mirny (Plesetsk Cosmodrome) in  the Arkhangelsk region.

Technologically the BBA project in Mirny relied on the FTTB (Fiber-to-the-Building) solution. A fiber-optics backbone 20 km long was built, reaching up to subscribers homes. BBA service is delivered to end users via Ethernet (dedicated line), while TV is supplied by coaxial cable over Stream TV distribution network earlier pulled inside the buildings.

The company’s network covers the entire town – more than 9 thousand households. Very soon all individuals and entities in Mirny, besides the Internet, will be optionally provided with Double Play, that is the Internet + TV from one vendor. The Carrier will offer to its subscribers both unlimited tariffs plans and those with prepaid traffic for a bit rate of up to 10 Mbps, and also mixed tariffs plans for the Internet + TV double service.

Andrey Petrov, the deputy general director – technical director of CJSC Stream TV has noted: “We have constructed in Mirny the modern telecommunication plant fully ready to provide the Triple Play service, that is broadband Internet, cable television and telephony. This is entirely in line  with the key strategic objectives pursued by JSC Comstar-UTS Group in the regional market.”

Dmitry Zaytsev, the director of CJSC Stream-TV branch in Severodvinsk, has added: “In December 2008 we rolled out in Mirny the CATV services, enabling inhabitants of this remote "space" town to watch 45 television channels. The following logical step was the rollout of the broadband Internet. To deliver these services we used the cutting-edge technologies. I believe, that townsmen will appreciate at their true value the new telecommunication services”.

Mirny is a unique town in the Russian North because of the world’s northernmost Plesetsk cosmodrome and the busiest launch center located there. The CJSC Stream-TV branch  is the leading CATV operator there. For today the majority of townsmen are subscribers of the company. All many-storeyed buildings there are wired with CATV network. In 2001 Mirny saw the coming of the multi-channel TV based on MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution System) enabling watching of 18 channels. In 2008 the Stream-TV branch has finished building the fiber-optics backbone and the host station for cable television in the town (for more detail please see).

Today more than 30 thousand inhabitants of Mirny, including employees of the Plesetsk cosmodrome, have access to the state-of-the-art multimedia telecommunication services.
