Ingosstrakh Pays USD 423,000 against Shipowner Liability Insurance
OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 June 2009 was announced, that Ingosstrakh had made a payment of USD
On September 19, 2005 the Rota motorboat insured by IJSC Ingosstrakh under the shipowner’s liability insurance policy collided with the sluice gate seriously damaging it when leaving the Port of Birkenhead. The initial claim amount announced by the port authorities against the ship owner was ?1.2 mln. However, after continuous negotiations with the participation of various appointed lawyers and reporters of IJSC Ingosstrakh the claim amount underwent a major reduction, and Ingosstrakh issued a letter of guarantee in the amount of USD 950,000 to release the vessel from arrest.
Once the repair of the gate was over, the parties agreed on a major reduction of the initial claim amount. The final amount of the amicable settlement was ?280,000 paid by Ingosstrakh directly to the claimant at the shipowner’s request. According to deputy head of the Administration for Settlement of Claims under Special Risk Insurance of IJSC Ingosstrakh Aleksey Kasatikov, in certain cases the company makes direct payments to third parties in order to settle their claims, thus enabling the ship owner to avoid withdrawal of funds from the business turnover. This is especially important for clients in the event of large losses during the times of the global financial crisis.
