OREANDA-NEWS. On June 2 2009 Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolay Spassky and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman H.E.Sayyid Badr Hamad Hamood Al Busaidi signed a memorandum of mutual understanding in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The parties have confirmed their interest in bilateral cooperation in the following fields: assistance in development of nuclear power infrastructure, fundamental and applied research, construction and operation of commercial and research nuclear reactors, use of radio-isotopes, nuclear safety and control, implementation of joint projects on prospecting and mining of uranium, provision of nuclear fuel cycle services, treatment of radioactive waste, training and professional development of administrative and scientific-technical personnel.

The parties are planning to set up a working group for outlining joint efforts to foster Oman’s plans to create own nuclear power industry.

The parties have also agreed to draft an inter-governmental agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
