Government of Ukraine to Initiate Anti-Corruption Bureau
OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2009. The Government is in the process of elaboration of a national action plan directed to corruption fight. Commissioner of the Government for anti-corruption policy Yurii Sukhov announced during a meeting with President of the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO) Drago Kos.
Yurii Sukov noted according to the plan principal components to counteract corruption have been defined which are work with society, introduction of public control after all the processes, maintaining interaction of profile bodies and accompanying anti-crisis draft laws. He also added a Government’s draft bill on anti-corruption bureau will be forwarded to the Parliament within nearest time.
The Government’s Commissioner also addressed the President of GRECO with a request to render support in order to make an expertise in the process of elaboration of the respective draft law to harmonize it with the norms of world legislation, “ so that it could result into creating a body responsible for fight against corruption on the highest level”.
Yurii Sukhov emphasized a proposition is being readied with regards to creating Coordination Committee for Anti-Corruption Policy which is to tackle high conflict situations. According to him, it is planned the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko to chair the committee while it shall be composed of all heads of central executive authorities.
In his turn, the President of the Group of States Against Corruption Drago Kos noted the Government’s Commissioner for Anti-Corruption Policy has to be responsible for development and introduction of anti-corruption policy and keep contact with three key power branches within the state – the President, Government and Parliament.
Drago Kos also stressed he was greatly pleased to cooperate with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko: “I am very glad to know there is at least one politician familiar to me who keeps her words”.
