Turkmenistan-China: Towards Long-Term Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2009. The delegation of the People’s Republic of China led by Zhang Meiying, Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who were on a visit to Ashgabat, held a meeting at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
The sides exchanged views on the aspects of the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Chinese relations, a new stage of which was marked with the high dynamics of cooperation in a whole spectrum. That was illustrated by the joint projects successfully implemented and being implemented in various fields including the fuel and energy, transport and communication sectors, chemical and textile industries. It was noted that the Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline Project – the largest transnational trunk pipeline standing as a visible symbol of effective intergovernmental partnership was of particular importance.
Highly appreciating humanitarian cooperation as a major priority of the Turkmen-Chinese relations the sides focused on the need to continue the fruitful dialogue in this field, particular the sphere of education where the partners had accumulated the profound experience of cooperation.
Reaffirming both countries’ adherence to constructive partnership the sides called for strengthening the inter-parliamentary contacts as an indissoluble factor of long-term cooperation at a new historical stage. In this context Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdieva briefed the Chinese guests on the major aspects of the activity of the national Parliament aimed at laying the firm legislative foundation for the ongoing large-scale reforms and social and economic development programmes.
In conclusion the sides expressed belief that the traditionally constructive intergovernmental dialogue would be furthered in the interests of the Turkmen and Chinese peoples.
