OREANDA-NEWS. On 28 May 2009 was announced, that "Sevmash" finished the qualification tests of the head container for storing the waste nuclear fuel for Leningradskaya Atomic Power Plant.

The enterprise concluded the contract for manufacturing packed storing sets (UKKh-109) for Leningradskaya Atomic Power Plant in 2007. It should be noted that shipbuilders are already experienced in manufacturing such advanced technology products. In 2002 - 2008 shipbuilders of “Sevmash” manufactured large series of containers for fuel of atomic submarines and atomic ice-breakers.

Since the weight and dimensions of containers UKKh-109 exceed products of the previous types, a specialized production was arranged at the enterprise (height of the metallic concrete container is 4 m, diameter is 2.4 m, weight is 88 tons). The qualification tests of the head specimen were performed by the inter-departmental commission headed by the representative of designer organization “Design Bureau of Specialized Machine-Building”. The decision was made concerning manufacturing the series of 30 items. The mass serial production of UKKh-109 containers is in sight, since Russian atomic power plants need these products.
