Port of Gdynia Finished South Pier Investment Project
OREANDA-NEWS. May 27, 2009. The ceremony of introduction into service of a new fire brigade's car has been preceded by a presentation of fire prevention installations on South Pier of Danish Quay. The modernization of South Pier is another finished investment of Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. (it was carried out during the period between November 2007 and January 30th 2009). The pier designed for liquid chemicals and fuels reloads measures 170 m in length. Modernization cost 15 M zlotys.
South Pier of Danish Quay is located on MTMG - Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia. Chemical Service Base contains position for chemicals handling tankers, pipelines and a trans-shipment of tanks and pumping stations. The technological process of reloading is controlled and supervised electronically. On Danish Quay a modern pumping station has been build. It controls 2 towers with extinguishers placed on the pier (towers 12 m high, equipped with electric water-and-foam cannons, range - 55 m, controlled from pumping room and remotely). This modern installation is intended for defense against any sudden fire on a ship serviced by the pier. It helps effective evacuation of the crew and prevent fire spread by covering endangered surfaces with foam.
During this investment original construction of the pier has been modernized and the mooring line extended by adding 3 more mooring sticks. Now, South Pier is able to service ships of length up to 150 m, 20 m wide and max draft 9.5 m, which increases its handling capacity.
This investment is another step forward in improving Port Gdynia's competitive position, especially considering liquid bulk goods.
