OREANDA-NEWS. On May 24, 2009 at 19:10 o’clock, a fire occurred at the Compressor Room of the Diesel Desulphurization Unit in AB Mazeikiu Nafta Refinery. The compressor was on fire. The gas leak may have been the cause of the fire, reported the press-centre of Mazeikiu Nafta.

The forces of the Fire and Rescue Service for Protection of AB Mazeikiu Nafta promptly contained and extinguished the fire. People were not injured during the incident.

One of the two Diesel Desulphurization Units was shut down. Despite the fact that the incident affected the operation of other units, the customers have not experienced any interruptions of the product deliveries.

The specialists of AB Mazeikiu Nafta are investigating the causes of the fire and identifying the losses. The fire had a minimum impact on the environment.
